WARNING: WALL OF TEXTUpdate from WWP, AnonSparrow post: Ok so because I did allude to the ACLU vs. Moxon showdown in one of my earlier posts, I will tell you what that was about but then I’ll be laying relatively low while the civil matter proceeds.
Remember that post where I alluded to the epic showdown, and how I said there’s a chance that Moxon might try to use the post against me somehow? He tried. He printed it out and gave it to the DA who then gave it to my lawyers.
They were extremely concerned as they intensely read it out in the hallway. Then, seeing that there was nothing compromising in it, they were fine but asked me to please not post anything more until the trial was over. Nice try Moxon.
So I will tell the ACLU story but that’s it for war stories for a little while.
Also before I forget, I haven’t checked emails yet so I apologize to those who are waiting to hear back. I am still working and my employer knows the whole story and is VERY supportive. I will be busy for the next few days while I get caught up but promise to answer all emails. And yes if anyone is in a position to make a legal donation I would be happy to receive.
My civil lawyer attended the entire trial and was invaluable to the process. No doubt what he learned there will only help our cause in the civil. But I can’t wait to see that bill. Also I’ve learned the transcript is going to cost around $2000. Worth every penny.
...
So, the very first court appearance was way back in July 2010. I hadn’t been arrested yet (didn’t know I was going to be arrested) and I fully intended to represent myself as it was my understanding that Ms. Belotte was representing herself.
So a couple hours before the hearing, Moxon has a process server drop off a thick pack of “evidence” to my apartment and makes it official that he is now representing Ms. Belotte. So I get to the hearing early and I’m waiting in this tiny waiting room when in marches Moxon, Ms. Belotte, Ms. Stanard, and Ms. Turissi. (But these women don’t report to Ms. Belotte so I’m not sure what they were doing there - huh.)
And boy did they have fun. They laughed it up and chitty chatted for an hour as we waited for the judge. I got to hear about how much they are expanding and all the book sales in Baltimore and all the new First Starts (my old stat) and blah blah blah.
It was a little intimidating.
So then we have the hearing and long story short is that the judge gives me some time to think over whether or not I still want to represent myself.
Fast forward a couple weeks now. I’ve been arrested and have sat in jail for 36 hours. I’ve been charged with a serious domestic violence crime. And things are looking a little glum. (But at the same time, Anonymous is firing off a multitude of harpoons to the appropriate ACLU office here in Washington.)
Some of you may remember that I was contacted by the ACLU and was asked if there is anything I can do to get people to quit calling and quit emailing. I told them if they wanted to write something up I would post it, but that I’m not the boss of Anonymous.
So I show up for the next status hearing and now I do have a lawyer - a good one. Now the demeanor of the Scientologists isn’t quite so chipper. In fact there’s a palpable feeling of concern amongst them.
So I go back into the tiny waiting room and take a seat next to a gentleman that was wearing a suit and tie. I wait quietly waiting while my lawyer signed in and was doing some preliminary stuff. The gentleman leans over and says “Are you Brian?” I said yes and he said “I’m so and so from the ACLU. I would like permission to sit in on your hearing.” (!!!) Absolutely you can sit in on my hearing! And we start to talk a little bit and Moxon comes into the room and sees this going on.
I pointed out Moxon to the ACLU lawyer who then stood up and introduced himself and asked Moxon for his permission to sit in on the hearing.
Moxon was stultified. It took him a good three seconds of just starting at him before he eventually answered. “No. I don’t think that would be appropriate.” To which the ACLU lawyer responded: “Well actually I don’t need your permission I was just trying to be polite. I will be sitting in on the hearing.” (ZING!)
Again Moxon is stultified for a few seconds and then says “Can I talk to you out in the hallway for a minute?” The lawyer looked ntrigued and entertained Moxon’s request. I could hear Moxon in the hallway telling him that Anonymous this and Anonymous that. Blah blah blah.
When the ACLU lawyer returned into the waiting room, he was not impressed. He told me and my lawyer the ridiculous things Moxon was saying to him in the hallway. Not a good first impression.
Now fast forward a few more weeks and I’m attending my first status hearing in the -criminal- trial. Guess who shows up - the ACLU lawyer. So now I have a civil lawyer, a criminal lawyer, and an ACLU lawyer showing some interest in both cases. Stark contrast to that very first day before Judge Beaudin when the Scientologists certainly thought they would just overwhelm me early on and that I would cave in and go away.
In fact, Mr. Moxon was completely willing to make some sort of informal agreement that first day when we went before Judge Beaudin. As Ms. Belotte sat right next to Moxon, Moxon told the judge that if I didn’t want to get a lawyer and wanted to settle this informally with him, that “would be ideal”.
What’s this? Ms. Belotte wanting to make an informal deal to get me to stay away? But I later would evolve into this psycho-sexual predator who has been stalking her for months with an erection, who has threatened to blow up her place of work. In her legal filings she said: “He’s getting more unstable and I am afraid of what he will do to me.”
Why on Earth would it be “ideal” to make a gentlemen’s agreement with such a person?
Well their story spiraled out of control. They kept telling more and more lies trying to get a handle on the situation. And in the criminal trial they were caught up BIG TIME in many of those lies.
But I digest...
So Moxon sees that the ACLU lawyer is there at the criminal trial status hearing. I’m sitting next to this ACLU lawyer and Moxon comes walking up to us. He glares at the ACLU lawyer for a few seconds without saying anything. It was INTENSE!
Finally he says “Hello Mr. so and so.”
ACLU: “Hello Mr. Moxon.”
Moxon: “So uh, do you represent Anonymous now?”
ACLU: “I don’t represent anybody.”
Moxon: “Are you going to help defend Mr. Mandigo in this case?”
And remember, these two have already developed a rather contentious rapport.
ACLU: “Maybe. .... If I have to.”
Moxon just glared at him for what seemed to be an eternity. And the ACLU lawyer glared right back the whole time. It was friggin intense! My heart was pounding. Then after that epic staredown, Moxon turns around and walks out of the courtroom.
Woo fucking Hoo! I’ll never forget that. Amazing.
Ok seriously, I’m done. <3 ~ anonsparrow
